ADULTS

Adult Faith Formation / Christian Education

Christ Church Episcopal, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

 ~ Pathways to Prayer

Prayer is not a technique that we do, but rather spending time with a loved One.
But often our prayer can seem tedious, dry and empty, perhaps because we’re
stuck in the same old way we’ve always prayed.  There are many ways to pray,
because our prayer represents our unique response to God. Come and experience
guided meditation, journaling, movement prayer, Lectio Divina and centering prayer

and gain many tools to enhance your spiritual journey.  Basics will be taught
which can be done by anyone, regardless of experience or physical limitation.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ann Arbor

~ Tools for your Spiritual Journey

Prayer is the means by which we most come to know God.  There are as many ways to pray as there are people, because our prayer represents our own unique response to God.  Yet there is much we can learn from the spiritual greats relative to some tried and true ways to experience God in prayer.  This two-part workshop will cover a few methods of prayer in considerable depth.  We will explore:

  • Centering Prayer, a method of praying without words
  • Imaginative Prayer where we put ourselves into various Scripture scenes
  • Journaling Prayer where we learn to communicate with God in written word
  • Movement Prayer where we use simple movements to express our prayers

Come to one or both sessions to give yourselves some new tools for your spiritual journey.

~ Deepening Our Focus and Our Faith

Faith is not something we “get” once and then hang onto for the rest of our lives.  Rather it is a continually evolving process of moving closer to God and at times moving away.  Prayer is a way we deepen our faith, yet in today’s hectic world we are often challenged with spending quiet time with God.  Noise and distractions disturb our prayer.  We ask questions but don’t seem to hear the answers.  Step away for a day to experience prayer that deepens your focus and your faith.  Invited guest, Janene Ternes, will share her inspirational story and lead us in a variety of prayer experiences using music, every day movements, Scripture, and guided meditation.  Basic movements will be taught which can be done by anyone, regardless of experience or physical limitation. All are invited to reflect, relax, and deepen your faith.
